MeFi Swaps
I must admit the obvious: I am not and never have been very active in posting on MetaFilter — but I do love it and have for a long time. I was user #98 way back when, but somehow that account got messed up and now I am #728. I can't even remember how ended up here 12 years ago and there's no counting how many awesome links and stories MeFi has given me.
It's much easier to count the awesome music. One of my general best memories is from back in the days of MeFi Swap — a CD exchange for members of the site. It was not officially affiliated and the swap site went dark long ago (mefiswap.bluesilver.org), but I still have those CDs and I discovered a lot of new music on them. I loved making mixes, designing covers for them — and getting postal mail. I guess it's kind of weird that one of my standout MeFi memories is so analog. But it's also a great example of the community here — one built on sharing and decency. Big thank you to Matt and team.
