I found it lifesaving. When I joined, I was in the middle of going to paramedic school while working full-time, and our first child was about five months old. The world was not making much sense to me, and joining the community here gave me back my ability to think that folks are basically decent.
It is one of the only refuges for genuinely intelligent conversation (leavened with a tremendous amount of irreverence) on the Internet.
